Assign a notary from your team
Choose a specific business-team notary and create an immediate or scheduled session for them.
Confirm the notary is ready
An invited team member, an onboarded account, and a notary eligible to perform a session are different states. Confirm the intended user is linked to the owning business and meets the product’s eligibility requirements.
- Create or link the member
Use the team-member invitation workflow and retain the returned user ID.
- Complete onboarding
Deliver the supported onboarding link and complete the necessary profile information.
- Confirm eligibility
Check pending approval and the supported notary state for RON or IPEN.
Assign by email
Set session_notary_email to the linked notary’s email. This example schedules a specific team notary for a future appointment.

"session_notary_email": "notary@example.com"
}Choose now or later
For an immediate session, change timing to notarize_now and omit session_timing. For an appointment, coordinate availability separately; a stored time is not an availability reservation.
| Goal | Request change |
|---|---|
| Start now | notarization_timing_type = notarize_now |
| Schedule later | notarization_timing_type = notarize_later plus session_timing |
| Change an existing time | PUT the new session_timing to the reschedule operation |
Deliver signer and notary access
Normal signer links appear in signing_urls. A notary signing URL is conditional on the assigned notary and the account’s notary-link setting; it is not guaranteed on every RON response.
- Keep notary access separate from signer access.
- Confirm whether account policy emails each participant.
- Verify automatic open-call policy for named assignments; do not assume assigning a notary disables every dispatch path.
Resolve assignment failures
Check the exact email, owning business relationship, supported state, and pending approval when the assignment is rejected. An unrelated existing BlueNotary account cannot be treated as a team member simply by knowing its email.
| Problem | Action |
|---|---|
| Not found or not linked | Confirm the member is linked under the integration’s owning business. |
| Pending approval | Complete the required approval workflow before assigning. |
| Unsupported notary state | Select an eligible notary for the chosen product. |
| Onboarding says complete but assignment fails | Check eligibility separately from onboarding. |
Follow completion and changes
Use the same session lifecycle, webhook, and artifact retrieval flow as other RON sessions. Provide explicit cancel, expire, and reschedule handling in your application rather than creating replacement sessions for every change.
