Create an in-person notarization

Prepare an electronic notarization conducted in person with a specific notary from your business team.

5 minAPI v2Integration guide

Prepare the notary-led workflow

IPEN uses a specifically assigned notary. Confirm that the member is linked to the owning business, has completed the required approval steps, and is eligible for the selected product and state.

  • Use signing_type ipen.
  • Provide session_notary_email; the field is required for IPEN.
  • Agree the participant and device workflow before sending access.
  • Use only the supported identity and notarial process for the session.

Create an IPEN session

Provide timing and signer information with the assigned notary. Add your prepared documents through session_documents.

Give the notary the correct access

The first signing link in the IPEN response targets the notary. Do not use a generic first-link-to-first-signer rule across products.

IPEN link semantics differ

Treat the returned link according to the IPEN workflow and validate the actual participant experience before release.

Prepare documents before the session

Use templates or explicit annotations where appropriate. A preparation hold can defer creation-time invitations, but its release is a separate supported action rather than an exposed v2 release endpoint.

  1. Prepare

Attach the correct PDF and verify fields.

  2. Review

The notary checks the prepared session.

  3. Conduct

Follow the approved in-person signing workflow.

  4. Complete

Wait for final processing and retrieve artifacts.

Schedule and change an appointment

Use notarize_later plus an explicit session_timing for an appointment. Rescheduling changes the stored time; separately coordinate notary availability and participant notifications.

Collect completed documents

Follow session completion events and retrieve final PDFs through signed_documents. Keep the notarization’s application reference, BlueNotary session ID, and final stored artifacts together.
